The Marine Corps of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) is preparing to dispatch 53 personnel to Nusantara capital city (IKN), East Kalimantan, for the national ceremony marking Indonesia's 79th Independence Day.
"The Marine Corps of the TNI AL has been instructed to ready a delegation comprising two 21-men platoons, company and platoon commanders, and supporting and reserve personnel. We will send 53 delegates in total," Commander of the Marine Corps, Major General Endi Supardi, informed.
Speaking to reporters during a preparatory roll call and exercise for the ceremony, he said that the Navy is also preparing four transport vehicles as well as equipment needed by the delegation.
"Our delegation will depart (for Nusantara) on August 5 (2024)," he added.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo decided to make the future capital the host of the national Independence Day ceremony on August 17 for the first time.
Supardi affirmed that his corps has been making all-out preparations to ensure its readiness for the historic moment.
"Since the ceremony will be IKN's first one, we have selected the best soldiers to be trained and prepared in the most proper manner possible," he said.
He then expressed the hope that the Marine Corps would always succeed in every mission it is assigned.
Two companies of navy personnel took part in the preparatory roll call. In addition to dozens of mariners, personnel from other units of the TNI AL also participated in the practice.
The participating soldiers carried out the exercise in uniforms prepared for the Independence Day ceremony.
