"In the near future, Jakarta will face new challenges in becoming a global city. We want to bolster synergy and cooperate with our strategic partners, including the Seoul metropolitan government," acting governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, said here on Saturday.
He made the statement at an event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Seoul.
Hartono noted that under the cooperation, Jakarta and Seoul have been coordinating and collaborating in several fields, such as tourism, culture, education, and human resource development.
Over the past four decades, their close partnership has been a manifestation of the commitment and hard work of both cities in developing their potential, especially in the fields of culture, economy, and urban development.
Hartono said that there are several challenges to maintaining a harmonious sister city relationship and fostering a more serious relationship so that it can continue to develop in various aspects.
The acting governor expressed the hope that the sister city relationship will continue to support the emergence of new ideas so that the communities of both cities can become more dynamic in facing developments with time.
To mark the 40th anniversary of their cooperation, the Jakarta government and the Seoul metropolitan government are holding the 2024 Seoul-Jakarta Friendship Festival from July 27 to July 28, 2024, at Korea 360 Main Atrium, Lotte Shopping Avenue, South Jakarta.
"Hopefully, the 2024 Seoul-Jakarta Friendship Festival serves as a place to celebrate art and cultural exchanges, create new opportunities, and continue to foster friendship between the two cities," he remarked.
