Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Vice President Ma'ruf Amin announced that the National Committee for Sharia Economy and Finance (KNEKS) is collaborating with ministries and agencies to formulate a national strategy to boost Islamic financial literacy and inclusion.

"This strategy is expected to serve as the main guideline for all stakeholders in developing Islamic financial literacy and inclusion in our country," he said during the Nusantara Sharia Economic Forum 2024 on Tuesday.

In his speech, Amin also emphasized the importance of central and regional stakeholders working together to increase the contribution of the Islamic economy and finance to the national economy.

He underlined that Indonesia has been steadily witnessing a boost in the popularity of Islamic economic practices in business activities.

"Amid global uncertainties, the Islamic economy has continued to grow and has contributed to the national economy's resilience, as evidenced by the fact that the market share of Islamic financing and businesses in the fourth quarter of 2023 nearly hit 50 percent," he said.

He further stated that the government has been focusing on four aspects to promote the Islamic economy in Indonesia since 2020: the finance industry, the halal industry, Islamic social funds, and Islamic businesses and entrepreneurs.

He said that the fourth aspect is key to developing the other three aspects.

"The existence of entrepreneurs is essential," Amin added.

To support the KNEKS, the government has established similar committees on a regional scale called KDEKS in 31 provinces.

"We only need to establish such committees in seven provinces, including East Nusa Tenggara, Bali, and the five remaining provinces in Papua," he said.
