Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two ministers have called for the institutional strengthening of the National Committee for Islamic Economics and Finance (KNEKS).

In a statement issued on Thursday, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas said that he discussed the matter with Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa.

Anas said that the institutional strengthening of the KNEKS could contribute to national economic resilience.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, who in April expressed hope that strengthening KNEKS' institutional management would bolster the Islamic economic and financial ecosystem, reiterated the government's commitment to this goal.

"This is the government's concern because the institutional strengthening of the KNEKS is one of the efforts to make Indonesia the center of the global sharia economy," Amin said.

The KNEKS is a non-structural institution that carries out its duties and functions independently. It has the task of accelerating, expanding, and advancing the development of the Islamic economy and finance to help strengthen national economic resilience.

Anas said that his ministry has coordinated with several ministries and agencies to strengthen the KNEKS.

"In the future, we hope that KNEKS will be stronger with a faster and simpler bureaucracy that can execute the directives from the President and the Vice President," he said.

The KNEKS will coordinate and accelerate cross-sector sharia economic and financial programs in keeping with the master plan document.

Meanwhile, Monoarfa said that he is ready to support the institutional strengthening of KNEKS.

"We have the Islamic economic institution and need to increase its role, as the sharia economy also makes a great contribution to the economy," he added.
