Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry has emphasized that collaboration between parties is key to realize Respect, Protection, Fulfillment, Enforcement, and Advancement of Human Rights (P5 HAM) for people with mental disabilities in Indonesia.

"Challenges in human rights enforcement, especially for mentally disabled people, remain an issue that must be tackled," the ministry's director general of human rights, Dhahana Putra, said here on Friday.

Indonesia, as a country of law, respects and protects human rights in its Constitution, he added.

He explained that P5 HAM has been integrated with the Master Plan for Persons with Disabilities (RIPD) and the National Action Plan for Human Rights (RANHAM).

The two plans include programs aimed at empowering people with mental disabilities and ensuring their rights are fulfilled.

Inclusive policies and concrete actions are key to fighting the stigma and discrimination against disabled people, Putra said.

"The steps taken today are expected to become a strong foundation for a better future for all citizens," he added.
