Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono asked hundreds of farmers in Grobogan, Central Java, on Sunday to use certified seeds to increase productivity towards food independence.

"Planting rice with seeds from your own harvests can reduce productivity," he said. "Certified seeds can increase harvest up to 25 percent."

Sudaryono said that the use of quality seeds is key to achieving food self-sufficiency and making Indonesia the world's food storage.

Certified rice seeds have been tested and proven to greatly benefit national productivity and can be one of the solutions amid the climate crisis.

He ensured that the government also continues to solve various farmers' problems, such as through the irrigation program and increasing the allocation of subsidized fertilizers by 100 percent.

He added that farmers' harvested crops will be absorbed by the state logistics agency Bulog.

Sudaryono expressed hope that Grobogan would become a successful model in the agriculture sector.
