Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some Indonesian-made games have penetrated international markets, including in Europe and the United States, according to the Indonesian Game Association (AGI).

"Some Indonesian games have attained success internationally, especially in Western markets such as the United States and Europe," AGI Chairman Cipto Adiguno stated here on Thursday.

In addition to the Western market, Adiguno hinted at a potential market for Indonesian games in eastern Asia, such as China.

"Many countries admire our games and even enthusiastically look for new games made in Indonesia," he explained.

Adiguno noted that some genres of Indonesian games that attract foreign markets are horror, relaxing, and visual novels. Relaxing and horror games are more popular.

Meanwhile, some challenges in competing with games created by foreign developers include aspects related to funding.

Nevertheless, he believed that the government's support through promotion and publication could attract investors and partners to collaborate with local game developers.

Adiguno earlier also expressed optimism that Indonesia's game industry will continue to grow positively in the next few years.

"This is because of the increasing quality of Indonesia's products, access to international cooperation and investment, as well as government support in the form of funding, education, and clearer regulations," he remarked on Wednesday (August 7).

In connection with this, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry launched the Indonesian Game Day on Thursday to boost the national game industry's development.

"Today is one of the milestones of Presidential Regulation Number 19 of 2024 on the National Game Industry Development Acceleration," the ministry's Director of Digital Economy and Creative Products, Muhammad Neil El Himam, stated.

He said that the celebration will strengthen the domestic game industry. So far, Indonesia has eight local games that will continue to be promoted.
