"The stadium construction is proof of the government's and PSSI's dedication to developing Indonesian football," Thohir, who also serves as the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, wrote on his Instagram account on Thursday.
The 21 stadiums include the Harapan Bangsa Stadium and Dimurthala Stadium in Aceh province, the Utama Stadium and Teladan Stadium in North Sumatra, and the Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium in South Sumatra.
They further include Demang Lehman Stadium in South Kalimantan; Segiri Samarinda Stadium in East Kalimantan; Indomilk Arena Stadium in Banten; and Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium, Pakansari Stadium, Wibawa Mukti Stadium, and Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium in West Java.
They also comprise Jati Diri Stadium and Gelora Bumi Kartini Stadium in Central Java; Maguwoharjo Stadium in DI Yogyakarta province; Kanjuruhan Stadium, Gelora Delta Stadium, Surajaya Stadium, Joko Samudro Stadium, and Gelora Ratu Pamelingan Stadium in East Java; and B.J. Habibie Stadium in South Sulawesi.
Thohir said that 2.874 trillion rupiahs (173 billion US dollars) from the 2024 State Budget was allocated for stadium construction and renovation.
The construction and refurbishment of these vital football facilities are part of an effort to transform Indonesian football, he stated.
"We aim to ensure all football stadiums in Indonesia meet proper safety standards and can host national and international tournaments," Thohir added.
In addition to stadium construction and renovation, PSSI received 127.10 billion rupiahs (7 million dollars) from the 2024 State Budget through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
These funds were used for equipping and operating the PSSI training center in the new capital (IKN) Nusantara, conducting training camps and tournaments for the Indonesian men's and women's national teams domestically and internationally, organizing events and competitions such as League 3, and undertaking technical and governance activities like coach and referee training.
Furthermore, 8.33 billion rupiah (481 thousand dollars) was allocated from the State Budget to support facilities for the U-23 national team's training camp in preparation for the Olympic qualifiers.
