President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) launched the development of a private hotel called Swiss-Belhotel Nusantara in Nusantara capital city (IKN), East Kalimantan, on Monday.
In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, he said that the construction of the 197-room hotel is projected to be completed within 15 months, so by the time the hotel becomes operational, he would have concluded his presidential tenure.
"I will continue to monitor (the project) even after I end my presidential period," he added.
The head of state then underlined that the design for the hotel has been adjusted to the concept of forest city applied for the development of the IKN.
To support the operations of Swiss-Belhotel Nusantara, he instructed the IKN Authority (OIKN) to immediately move to construct the requisite supporting infrastructure and facilities.
"I want the OIKN to prepare related facilities and infrastructures, such as road access to the hotel as well as those essential for supplies of electricity and water," he said.
Earlier, during a plenary Cabinet meeting at Garuda Palace, Nusantara, the President noted that groundbreaking ceremonies have been carried out for eight hotels in Indonesia's future capital.
After chairing the meeting, he continued his official agenda by inaugurating a number of projects in addition to Swiss-Belhotel, including the Bank Central Asia office and the Nusantara International Convention Center and Hotel.
He also opened Kusuma Bangsa Park, which will host a reflection night on the eve of Independence Day, which will be commemorated with a national ceremony on August 17 in Nusantara.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin initiated the construction of the IKN Vice Presidential Palace after attending the meeting.
