Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nusantara capital city (IKN), which is being developed in East Kalimantan province, will be home to a center for presidential archive studies, according to acting head of the National Archives (ANRI), Imam Gunarto.

"The first center for studies of presidential archives has been built here in Jakarta. Later, we will develop a similar center at IKN," he informed after opening an archive exhibition commemorating the 122nd birthday of Mohammad Hatta, Indonesia's first vice president, on Monday.

Gunarto said that ANRI, along with the State Secretariat Ministry, is also organizing the Presidential Archive Exhibition to showcase archives related to the capital city relocation to mark Indonesia's 79th Independence Day.

According to the official, the initial plan was to hold the expo in Nusantara. However, it was scrapped due to the absence of a proper location in Indonesia's future seat of government.

"We will still hold such an exhibition there. Every August, we will hold various activities to celebrate Independence Month and Hatta Month, such as exhibitions and seminars, to keep the memories of the struggles for independence in people's minds," he said.

He then drew attention to the crucial role of archivists in preserving mementos that tell stories about national figures.

"We, archivists, will continue to preserve archives related to national figures and introduce them to a broader population, so that the nation can draw inspiration from such legacies," he said.

Earlier, secretary of the State Secretariat Ministry, Setya Utama, said that the Presidential Archive Exhibition is expected to help people to more fully grasp the ideas surrounding the plan and implementation of the past and ongoing capital city transfers in a more detailed manner.

He added that the exhibition, which is being held from August 8–20, 2024, at Ismail Marzuki Park, is meant to introduce the appeal of national archives to people and build their awareness about the nation's documentary heritage.
