IKN Nusantara, East Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered all regional heads across Indonesia to coordinate with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) to facilitate athletes' training ahead of the National Sports Week (PON).

"Provinces should coordinate with KONI to accommodate training for athletes for existing sports branches," he remarked during the briefing with regional heads at the IKN State Palace, East Kalimantan, on Tuesday.

The head of state said he received various complaints about training for several sports branches which had not received any assistance either from the province, city, or district.

He also reminded all regional heads that the PON event can boost their electability ahead of the regional election.

Jokowi stated that Home Minister Tito Karnavian and Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo reported that the location was ready for the PON.

"It may lack a little, but it is ready," the president stated while addressing hundreds of regional heads at a meeting in Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

Earlier, Deputy for Coordination of Mental Revolution, Cultural Advancement, and Sports Achievement of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Warsito ensured the government would conduct a final check after August 17, 2024.

According to Warsito, intervention would be conducted for any inadequacy after the final check.

"After August 17, we will directly ensure the readiness of PON and Peparnas (National Paralympic Week)," he stated.

On August 9, Warsito ensured that all main and supporting infrastructure for PON 2024 was, on average, 85 percent complete.

"Overall, around 85 percent, but there are some parts with 100 percent (completion) and some additional venues," he remarked.

The 2024 PON will be held at Aceh and North Sumatra on September 8-20, 2024, followed by the 2024 Peparnas on October 6-13, 2024, in Solo, Central Java.
