Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Health Ministry will hold the second Regulatory Sandbox Program for Health Digital Innovation, with a focus on medical diagnosis, to ensure that health innovations comply with the set standards and regulations.

"The Health Ministry has opened (registrations) for the second sandbox, which has a different theme. On telemedicine, it has been hosted last year. We will explore other areas, like medical diagnosis," chief of the ministry's Digital Transformation Office, Setiaji, informed here on Wednesday.

He said that the program is being hosted following the success of the first iteration, which saw participation from 50 telemedicine providers, with eight given notes for improvement and six guided by the ministry for a year.

Setiaji said that nowadays, the technology for diagnostics, such as for blood monitoring, has improved. One example is the rise of wearable devices, he pointed out.

During the Regulatory Sandbox program, the providers' innovations will be reviewed by the government on certain aspects, such as device safety and accuracy of the diagnosis, and those reviews could help dispel public concerns over their products.

Another benefit to participating, he said, is that the participants can give the government some inputs for relevant regulations.

Registrations for the program will be open until August 23, he informed. The program will include activities such as presenting scenarios in which the innovation comes into use, live testing, and recommendations for health tech innovation.

He said that the panel of judges will comprise some experts, such as from Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, and National Cyber and Crypto Agency.

He added that the sandbox program will be hosted regularly, with each iteration bringing up different themes, such as telesurgery and online health stores.
