Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Culinary entrepreneurs in East Kalimantan stand to benefit through their food services ahead of the Independence Day celebration in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

Chair of East Kalimantan's Indonesian Association for Culinary Services (PPJI), Fitriyana Zoelkifli, stated here on Thursday that her side has a great opportunity to provide food services during the Independence Day celebration in IKN Nusantara.

"The momentum of the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in IKN has a positive impact on increasing sales in the East Kalimantan culinary sector, as thousands of guests from outside the region will visit East Kalimantan," she remarked.

She said that despite this opportunity, the province has limited resources.

Zoelkifli admitted that her side is still learning, as the local culinary service providers have no experience serving food for more than 30 thousand guests.

"This is a lesson for human resources in the culinary sector which needed to be improved," she emphasized.

She commended the steps taken by the East Kalimantan Tourism Office to help culinary players obtain free certificates of safe food management through the hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP)-based test.

Meanwhile, the association of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan, is exhibiting its products at the IKN Expo on August 15-18.

Most of them are culinary products, such as packaged food, snacks, and processed seafood.

"We hope that the IKN Expo can be a momentum for MSMEs to improve the local economy," chairman of the district's MSME association, Rizal Ramadhan, remarked.

Meanwhile, Head of the East Kalimantan Tourism Office, Ririn Sari Dewi, emphasized that culinary specialities must be promoted to guests in IKN Nusantara.

"The IKN Expo opens up opportunities for MSMEs to introduce their expertise in serving East Kalimantan's unique culinary (dishes) to the guests," she stated.
