Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that over the past decade, his administration has focused on Indonesia-centric development, prioritizing infrastructure construction in the nation's remote areas, including bridges and dams.

He conveyed this at the 2024 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) in Jakarta on Friday.

"In the last 10 years, we have been able to build a new foundation and civilization with Indonesia-centric development," Jokowi remarked.

He stated that the government has focused on developing the periphery, villages, and outermost areas.

Jokowi noted that under his leadership, the government had built 366,000 kilometers of village roads, 1.9 million meters of village bridges, and 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads.

Additionally, the government has built 6,000 kilometers of national roads, 50 ports and airports, 43 dams, and 1.1 million hectares of irrigation canals.

He stated that these developments allowed Indonesia to reduce logistics costs from 24 percent to 14 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 and improve the country's competitiveness.

In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, Indonesia's rank in 2024 rose to 27th, from 34th in 2023 and 44th in 2022.

"We are able to strengthen our unity through more equal access," Jokowi pointed out.

During Friday's session, Jokowi also delivered performance reports on state institutions and a State of the Nation Address for the 79th Independence Anniversary.

The session will be followed by a DPR plenary on the 2025 draft state budget.
