Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo stated that Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan can symbolize hope and a shared commitment to a brighter future.

In his speech at the 2024 MPR Annual Session in Jakarta on Friday, he described Nusantara as a milestone in Indonesia's history and a blank page ready to be filled with national pride, achievements, and admiration.

"IKN is not just a name or a location on the map," he said. "As Indonesia celebrates 79 years of independence, it welcomes a new chapter with IKN."

He invited all parties to step forward confidently and make Nusantara a center of inspiration and strength.

Soesatyo also called on all elements to maintain Nusantara as a legacy of hope and aspirations.

In this way, the capital becomes not just a legacy as a city but a place where the next generation can grow with bigger dreams.

"When our grandchildren look at IKN, they will not only see a city but also feel the heartbeats of the nation for a brighter future," he remarked.

During Friday's MPR session, President Joko Widodo delivered a report on the performance of his administration and a state speech to commemorate Indonesia's Independence Day.

The session will be followed by a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) on the 2025 Draft State Budget.
