Widodo—popularly known as Jokowi—conveyed this to parliament members during the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Jakarta, which was broadcast live on social media on Friday.
"Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), Indonesia is one of the few countries that has been able to recover more quickly and even continue to grow," he highlighted.
"Our economic growth has remained above five percent," the president remarked.
Jokowi noted that eastern Indonesia’s economy grew by more than six percent, with North Maluku clocking growth of above 20 percent.
He highlighted that Indonesia’s inflation rate has been maintained within the range of two to three percent at a time when several countries are experiencing inflation spikes, with some exceeding 200 percent.
Extreme poverty in the country reduced to 0.8 percent in 2024 from 6.18 percent in 2014, while child stunting cases declined to 21.5 percent in 2023 from 37.2 percent in 2013.
"We have also managed to reduce the unemployment rate from 5.7 percent to 4.8 percent in 2024," Jokowi pointed out.
The MPR Annual Session is held every August 16, a day before Indonesia celebrates Independence Day. Friday's session will be followed by the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) on the 2025 State Budget Draft.
