The Palestinian highest award recognizes Indonesia's unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle for independence, Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said.
She stated that the award was presented by the Palestinian President's special envoy following a meeting with President Jokowi.
"The Special Envoy conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas' appreciation to President Jokowi for Indonesia's steadfast support of the Palestinian struggle," Marsudi remarked.
The special envoy also conveyed Abbas' warm regards to Jokowi and the Indonesian people for Independence Day on August 17.
Marsudi added that Abbas praised Indonesia's significant role in supporting the Palestinian people, including advocating for a ceasefire, providing humanitarian assistance, and promoting a two-state solution.
"At the meeting, President Jokowi reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle, advocating for a ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and a two-state solution," she stated.
Jokowi also reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to advocating for international recognition and full UN membership for Palestine, she said.
Special Envoy Al Maliki stated that the award was a mark of respect for President Jokowi's efforts in strengthening Indonesia-Palestine relations. It also symbolizes the close diplomatic ties between the two nations and Indonesia's commitment to supporting Palestinian rights internationally.
