...I have been urged to focus more on foreign investors, as the number of local ones has continued to rise.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has directed the newly appointed Minister of Investment, Rosan Roeslani, to rope in foreign investments for Nusantara capital city (IKN) in East Kalimantan province.

"To support IKN's development, the President hopes for investments both from local and foreign business players. Considering my experiences in the investment field, I have been urged to focus more on foreign investors, as the number of local ones has continued to rise," Roeslani said.

After meeting with the head of state at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, he informed that he will target potential investors from countries such as Singapore that are no strangers to Indonesia's investment climate.

The minister affirmed that clear regulations are key to roping in foreign investment, while noting that Indonesia needs to compete with neighboring countries that have made adjustments to their policies.

The former state-owned enterprises deputy minister further revealed that President Widodo has asked him to continue efforts to achieve this year's investment target of Rp1,650 trillion (around US$105 billion). So far, 50.3 percent of the target has been realized.

The President has also asked Roeslani to support Indonesia's downstreaming policy for minerals, especially nickel and bauxite, as well as agricultural and plantation commodities in the remaining two months of the incumbent government's active period.

Roeslani, who is also serving as chairperson of the IKN investment acceleration task force, was inaugurated as investment minister by President Widodo at the State Palace on Monday.

After his inauguration, the minister underscored the importance of stepping up cooperation with the world of business.

He also expressed the belief that investment would play a crucial role in Indonesia's future, given that the investment sector contributes at least 30 percent to the country's economic growth.
