Once the IKN airport operates in the first week of September, the President will move there.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, has informed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) may move to Indonesia's new capital (IKN) Nusantara in September 2024.

"Once the IKN airport operates in the first week of September, the President will move there," he said on Friday.

The minister added that he will check the progress of the airport runway this week. Currently, the construction of the runway has reached 1,100 meters of the temporary target of 2,200 meters.

"We will review the airport tomorrow. If the weather is conducive, the construction of the 2,200-meter runway is expected to be completed on September 2 (2024). Once the runway is finished, the lights will be installed," he informed.

According to him, the IKN Airport is targeted to start operations in the first week of September.

Based on previous information, the IKN Nusantara Authority (OIKN) said that the first wave of civil servant (ASN) relocation to IKN will likely start in September.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) said that ASN relocation to IKN will be carried out gradually until 2029, with three priorities.

The government will prioritize transferring ASNs with digital literacy capability to IKN.

Meanwhile, President Widodo has said that he does not want to rush the planned transfer of ASN to IKN in September if they are not ready.

The head of state informed that the ASN transfer will be adjusted to conditions in the field, such as the readiness of ASN flats for occupancy.

According to him, the transfer could be postponed if the facilities are not ready.

The PUPR Ministry is collaborating with several parties to provide supporting facilities at ASN flats such as retail networks, expedition facilities, and communal spaces and shared spaces for residents.
