Iskandar, the minister, highlighted the success of these efforts through various achievements, such as the construction of 350,777 kilometers of village roads and 1,742,886 clean water facilities.
"These accomplishments also include 6,706 reservoirs, 603,348 irrigation units, 33,897 sports facilities, 536,907 sanitary units, and 1,742,886 clean water facilities," he stated in a press release from his office on Wednesday.
Iskandar conveyed this during Tuesday's Village Data Collection Socialization and Technical Guidance Activity for Village Assistants in Jakarta.
The minister stated that the government had spent Rp539 trillion (US$33 billion) to fund the program during the 2015-2023 period.
These achievements were proof of the government's strong commitment to expediting village development. He noted that village utilization is expected to significantly contribute to national economic growth and equal welfare in Indonesia.
Approaching the end of his tenure in October, Iskandar also drew attention to the importance of measuring village progress through various indicators reflecting improvements in the quality of life, economy, infrastructure, and community welfare.
The minister called for the need to adjust these indicators to the needs and characteristics of each village, which will be used for the evaluation and planning of more effective and sustainable development programs.
"The Village Index must act as an answer, a tool to measure the level of progress and independence in a village. That is the aim of this socialization and technical guidance activity," he remarked.
