Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that he would accompany the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, to as much extent as possible during his visit to Indonesia.

"Yes, if it is possible, I will accompany him," Jokowi noted during his working meeting in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Thursday.

The president remarked that the entire process of welcoming the Pope in Indonesia has been arranged and is expected to go well.

"He will visit several places and will also hold a mass in Gelora Bung Karno, which will be attended by Indonesian Catholics," he revealed.

President Jokowi will also welcome the Pope at the Jakarta Presidential Palace as per the state visit welcome protocol and hold a dialogue with him. The issues to be discussed are related to world peace.

Pope Francis will make an apostolic trip and state visit to Indonesia on September 3-6, 2024.

The Pope will arrive in Indonesia on September 3 and will meet President Jokowi on September 4.

On September 5, the Pope will conduct activities at the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral Church, as well as lead a grand mass at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex.

On September 6-9, Pope Francis will continue his journey to Port Moresby and Vanimo in Papua New Guinea and to Dili, Timor-Leste, on September 9-11, and Singapore on September 11-13.

Pope Francis is the third Pope to visit Indonesia. The first is Pope Paul VI, who visited on December 3-4, 1970. Some 19 years later, Pope John Paul II paid a visit to Indonesia on October 9-14, 1989.
