"The dams that have not yet been completed will continue into next year," he said at the inauguration of the Leuwikeris Dam in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Thursday.
In addition to Leuwikeris, which is the 45th dam built by the government, eight more dams are ready to operate, Jokowi added.
"There are eight more dams that we will soon inaugurate," he said.
On this occasion, Jokowi also emphasized the importance of water management in supporting community welfare and agriculture.
"Water is the source of life. Therefore, it must be managed well for the benefit of the people, for the benefit of the community, for the benefit of farmers," he stated.
Leuwikeris Dam, with a capacity of 81 million cubic meters of water, was built with a budget of Rp3.5 trillion (around US$227.23 million). The general budget range for dam projects is Rp800 billion to Rp1 trillion.
Jokowi noted that the construction of Leuwikeris Dam, covering a water area of 243 hectares, took eight years to complete.
