Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Delegates from Indonesia and African countries, gathered at the 2024 Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF), in Bali, Sunday, agreed on the crucial role of parliaments in strengthening cooperation between the two regions.

"The results of the meeting will be shared with the governments of Indonesia and African countries as a policy recommendation," Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Fadli Zon said while delivering the IAPF 2024 Recommendation here on Sunday.

Through the forum, the DPR is committed to bolstering cooperation with African parliaments in areas such as capacity building, lawmaking, parliamentary technology innovation, information sharing, and media publication, Fadli said.

This step aims to optimize the parliamentary secretariat's role in achieving the commitments and objectives outlined in the document.

Throughout the discussions, the parliaments of Indonesia and African countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening political, social, and economic ties between the two regions.

One of the key agreements was recognizing the importance of the Bandung Spirit as a foundation for solidarity and building a strong South-South cooperation for sustainable and inclusive development.

Delegates from 20 countries participating in the IAPF also emphasized the role of parliament as the people's representative and suggested utilizing parliamentary diplomacy to promote cultural exchange and dialogue between civilizations.

The delegates agreed to cooperate on issues such as education, culture, sustainable tourism, women's and youth empowerment, human resources, and community development.

Additionally, they highlighted the importance of community-to-community relations in achieving South-South Cooperation and accelerating SDGs implementation.

The 2024 IAPF also emphasized the urgent need for voluntary initiatives to accelerate the achievement and implementation of SDGs, reaffirming its full commitment to supporting Africa's Agenda 2063 and the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision for peace and security, social development, inclusive economy, and resilient community.

Several agreements were reached in other sectors, including food security, health insurance, economic growth, trade and investment partnerships, and renewable energy.

The IAPF was held in Bali from August 31 to September 2, 2024, concurrently with the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) and the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships.
