Bali (ANTARA) - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani underscored the significance of maintaining relations founded on the principle of equality to foster greater cooperation between Indonesia and African countries amidst the multifaceted challenges of the global landscape.

"Equality-based relations mean that no one wants to dominate this partnership," Maharani stated during the opening session of the Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF) 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Sunday.

She noted that the Bandung Conference of 1955 marked a historical milestone in fostering brotherhood and solidarity among nations in Asia and Africa.

While the solidarity of 1955 was focused on fighting for independence, today's partnership between Indonesia and African countries should be strengthened by embracing diversity and seeking common ground.

The words of Indonesia's first President, Mr. Soekarno, remain relevant today: 'Unity in Diversity Asia-Africa.' Cultural, social, and national differences are not divisive factors but rather unifying forces, she explained.

Maharani emphasized that parliaments should play a proactive role in encouraging and synergizing with governments to strengthen international cooperation, particularly between developing countries.

She called for the mapping out of future cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Indonesia, poised to become the world's fourth-largest economy by 2050, is ready to partner with Africa in its development journey, she affirmed.

This aligns with the Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, a blueprint for transforming Africa into a major global power.

According to the African Development Bank, Africa is the continent with the second-highest growth rate globally. Its economy is projected to grow positively by 3.7 percent in 2024 and 4.3 percent in 2025.

These figures align with Indonesia's economic growth projections of 5.3 percent and 5.2 percent for the same years.

"There are numerous opportunities for collaboration. We can work together on developing renewable energy, enhancing food security, and building a digital economy," Maharani suggested.

Additionally, she proposed that Indonesia and Africa collaborate to increase women's participation, particularly in the economic and political spheres.
