Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) signed a contract for the sale of five Nurtanio N219 aircraft to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Bali.

"We provide air transportation solutions that are suitable to meet the needs in several regions in Africa," the company's president director, Gita Amperiawan, remarked here on Tuesday.

According to Amperiawan, Africa's aviation market has huge potential for growth, with a significant need for regional aircraft that can operate at airports with infrastructure that is less than optimal.

The N219 aircraft is specifically designed for pioneer flights in difficult terrain, so it has the advantage of meeting the needs of several countries in Africa.

"We are selling the N219 aircraft not only for the domestic market but also for the international market, especially in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions," he noted.

He affirmed that the new procurement contract for N219 aircraft is expected to have a significant impact on intensifying bilateral relations between Indonesia and Africa.

In addition, it strengthens Indonesia's position as a strategic partner for African countries.

During the forum, the state-owned aircraft manufacturer also signed a framework of the agreement with partners from the Congolese government for the procurement of two CN235-220 aircraft for military transportation run by the Congolese Air Force.

In addition, PTDI has recorded the inking of a four-year periodic maintenance contract for two CN235-220 aircraft of the Senegalese Air Force.

Amperiawan explained that the CN235-220 aircraft is one of the superior products used in various countries.

CN235 aircraft have been exported to African countries since early 2000, including one unit exported to Burkina Faso, Guinea, as well as three units exported to Senegal.

"By developing cooperation in the aviation and transportation sectors, we expect to create more opportunities for increasing investment, trade, and technology exchange between the two regions," he noted.
