... the productive age population has great purchasing power and is a potential target market.
Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The younger generation is expected to support and promote the use of local products, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said here on Friday.

"National economic growth in 2024 is (projected to be) in the range of 4.5 percent to 5.5 percent, along with the ongoing development of national strategic projects. And the trade balance has experienced a consecutive surplus," he noted.

He emphasized the significant role of the younger generation in supporting the use of local products by promoting the national movement of proudly using Indonesian products on social media.

"The younger generation can also play role of ambassadors for local products by buying and using local products. Because the productive age population has great purchasing power and is a potential target market," he said.

The minister explained that the significant potential of the younger generation as domestic product users is supported by the substantial growth of Indonesia's digital economy, which reached 82 billion US dollars in 2023, as well as by the number of internet users, which reached 215.63 million in March 2023.

"Then, the five growing digital economy sectors, such as e-commerce whose transaction value reached Rp453.75 trillion in 2023, fintech, edutech, health tech, and online media whose utilization is not far from the younger generation," he said.

By the 2023 National Online Shopping Day, the number of online traders had grown by 6 percent and local product transactions had reached Rp12.3 trillion, he added.

"Seeing this potential, of course, digital literacy and promotion of the proud movement to use Indonesian products to young people are still carried out, so that the younger generation -- apart from being consumers -- can also promote domestic products," he said.
