Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is committed to protecting vulnerable workers who have been laid off from work through initiatives such as the Unemployment Benefits Program (JKP), Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has said.

At the 2024 Workers Social Security Program Organizing Agency (BPJS-TK) Award ceremony here on Thursday, she stressed that the government is striving to ensure that all workers, especially those from the vulnerable group, participate in the BPJS-TK program.

The program includes Old Age Savings (JHT), Work Accident Insurance (JKK), Death Insurance (JKM), and the Unemployment Benefits Program (JKP).

"If workers experience layoffs, we expect they will not downgrade in (social) class because they get social security in the form of JKP, where they are eligible to get cash benefits, job market access, and vocational training," she explained.

She said she hopes that the benefits offered to BPJS-TK participants can prevent them from sliding into extreme poverty.

On the same occasion, the president director of BPJS-TK, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, said that currently, 39.2 million workers are protected by the Workers Social Security Program, with 2.8 million of them categorized as vulnerable.

"These workers are very vulnerable to falling back into extreme poverty, so they are one of our focuses for protection," Cahyo informed.

He added that BPJS-TK is collaborating with community leaders across the regions to increase knowledge about the program's benefits and help workers access the program.

Between 2023 and August 2024, BPJS-TK paid Rp90 trillion in benefits to 7.3 million participants or their heirs.

The funds managed by the agency also grow as the number of participants increases.

"Now, the amount of (funds managed) has touched Rp767.23 trillion," Cahyo said.
