He made the statement at the 13th Technical Work Meeting of the Information Commission in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday.
Yoesgiantoro underlined that KPU and Bawaslu have an important role in ensuring that each regional leader candidate gets the same access to information so that the elections run fairly and transparently.
He also warned of the potential for information disputes arising during the Regional Head Elections due to political dynamics that could trigger tensions related to access to public information.
"Therefore, we need to anticipate the potential for information disputes that may occur in the implementation of the regional head elections," he said.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of active public participation in monitoring information transparency, especially to make sure that the people get accurate information about regional head candidates.
He said that information, such as profiles of regional head candidates, must be routinely conveyed to the public to maintain transparency in the election process.
The delivery of information is an important step in preventing ethical violations during the election stages.
The commission will hold the technical work meeting until September 14, 2024, to prepare an information openness strategy for the elections.
Yoesgiantoro said that the meeting will serve as a forum for the central and regional levels of the Information Commission to create work programs that will be synchronized with strategy to oversee public information openness.
"I hope this technical work meeting can formulate the right strategy to oversee information openness in the 2024 Regional Head Elections," he added.
