Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) has prepared a number of strategies to anticipate real world and cyber threats during the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada).

"Polri has mapped the Pilkada vulnerability index as the foundation for the Mantap Praja Operation and the Nusantara cooling system task force to maintain a safe, peaceful, and conducive situation," head of the Polri's public information bureau, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, informed here on Tuesday.

To anticipate potential threats, Polri has prepared measurable strategies, including boosting security at the pre-election stage, he added.

According to Andiko, conflicts often arise between candidate supporters during the pre-election period, along with hoaxes and other security risks.

Therefore, he said that Polri has intensified patrols and surveillance not only in the real world, but also in cyberspace in close coordination with related agencies.

"This is to prevent potential riots and other security disturbances before they develop into bigger problems," he explained.

He added that the police force has also involved elements of the society, such as religious leaders, community leaders, youth figures, and community organizations, in efforts to secure the elections.

Involving the community is key for building and expanding public support to maintain security during Pilkada, he continued.

He further said that Polri is striving to create public awareness about the importance of maintaining peace and order during the election.

It will improve the quality of its personnel by providing intensive training and emergency simulations, he informed.

"We will ensure that every personnel is ready to face the challenges that may occur, starting from securing the voting process, handling social conflicts, and using information and communication technology to support security operations," he expounded.
