Kaesang, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo, had to visit the anti-graft body office in Jakarta after his trip to the United States using a private jet, which drew public attention.
"I appreciate Kaesang's proactive approach in addressing this matter. It will undoubtedly facilitate KPK's investigation into allegations of gratification," Boyamin stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Boyamin expressed hope that the KPK would promptly conclude its analysis of Kaesang's clarification to determine whether the facilities he used constituted gratification.
If the facilities are deemed to be gratification by the KPK, Boyamin urged Kaesang to return an equivalent amount to the state.
Earlier, Kaesang and his wife, Erina Gudono, faced significant public scrutiny on social media regarding their use of a private jet while traveling to the United States during a period of widespread protests in Indonesia over the Constitutional Court's decision on regional head nomination thresholds and age limits.
Netizens, particularly on social media platforms like X, discussed the possibility of gratification after Erina Gudono shared a view from inside the private jet on her Instagram account.
Consequently, Kaesang was reported to the KPK by Boyamin Saiman and a lecturer at the Jakarta State University (UNJ), Ubaidilah Badrun.
Kaesang visited the KPK Office on Tuesday to provide clarification regarding the use of the private jet.
"My appearance at the KPK is a testament to my commitment as a responsible citizen. I am not a state administrator or an official. I came here voluntarily, not in response to an invitation or a summons," Kaesang, who was ineligible to contest the gubernatorial election following the House's decision to maintain the regional election law despite last month's mass protests, stated.
Kaesang confirmed to have tendered a clarification to the KPK regarding the use of the private jet on his trip to the United States.
"I clarified that on my trip on August 18 to the United States, I hitched a ride on a friend's plane," he remarked.
However, Kaesang declined to provide further details about the trip, suggesting that inquiries should be directed to the KPK.
"For more information, please contact the KPK directly," Kaesang added.
Earlier this month, Kaesang's brother-in-law, Bobby Nasution, the mayor of Medan in North Sumatra, was also reported to the KPK for allegedly accepting the use of a private jet.
Bobby’s trips were reportedly to take place in February 2023.
