During his visit to the evacuation post in Cibeureum Village, Kertasari Sub-district, Bandung District, Suharyanto spoke to some of the evacuees.
"Today, I was sent by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to see the Bandung District evacuees, who are displaced due to the earthquake. Everything is going well," he remarked.
Suharyanto said his presence there aimed to ensure the smooth handling of displaced people in the evacuation tents. He said some of the residents' houses were damaged, making them dangerous to occupy.
"The Bandung district government has established the emergency response (status). We want to ensure that the affected community’s needs during the emergency response period are met," he remarked.
On the same occasion, the BNPB chief handed over assistance in the form of instant funding (DSP) worth Rp300 million (or around US$19,700) to the Bandung district government during the two-week emergency response period.
"The Rp300 million assistance should be used during the emergency response initial period. Of course, if it is lacking, then there will be additional (funding)," he remarked.
In addition to the DSP, the BNPB provided logistics and equipment to support the disaster emergency response in Bandung District.
Some of the equipment distributed by BNPB included staple food packages, tents, mattresses, blankets, instant food, hygiene kits, adult and children's clothing, and generators, among others.
Suharyanto ensured that the management of the post-earthquake condition should be effective by prioritizing safety and meeting the basic needs of evacuees.
"We see that everything, the (evacuation) post and the kitchen are running well," he remarked.
