Jakarta (ANTARA) - Members of Parliament (MPs) elected for the 2024–2029 term will be sworn into the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) during the first plenary meeting on October 1, according to the MPR Secretariat General.

The MPR's Acting Secretary General, Siti Fauziah, stated that for the 2024–2029 term, the MPR will consist of 732 members: 580 from the House of Representatives (DPR) and 152 from the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

"The number of DPR and DPD members has increased from 711. The addition of DPD senators is due to the creation of new provinces," she said on Friday.

The MPR speakership will consist of eight MPs representing each party faction in the DPR and one from the DPD, reducing the number from 10 in the previous term, she noted.

Following the plenary meeting to induct MPs, the MPR speaker will convene a meeting on October 2 to assign MPs to the parliament's organs and commissions.

The DPR and DPD will also hold elections to choose their speakers. Once the speakers of both houses have been selected, the parliament will elect the MPR speaker, Fauziah said.

"The inauguration of the MPR speaker may take place on October 3 or 4, depending on the election of the DPR and DPD speakers," she added.

She confirmed that President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin would attend the first plenary meeting of the 2024–2029 MPR.

The MPR's plenary session to inaugurate Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as president and vice president for the 2024–2029 term will take place on October 20.
