Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Government is currently constructing a new national data center (PDN) in Bekasi and will build another two in Batam and Nusantara Capital City (IKN), Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Coordinating Minister Hadi Tjahjanto stated.

He remarked that the new PDNs would be operated by a public service agency under the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

"We will beef up data security by applying advanced encryption and putting multi-layered security in place," the minister remarked during a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday.

Tjahjanto underscored that the data centers are designed to strengthen Indonesia's data capacity and help the government consolidate national development.

The minister then informed attending lawmakers that construction of the PDN in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, had progressed to 83. The data center is targeted to begin operations in 2026.

As for the planned PDN in Batam, Riau Islands, he revealed that the government is currently choosing supervisory consultants.

"Meanwhile, the third PDN will be constructed in an area in Nusantara currently being prepared by the IKN Authority. We will summon (the authority) this week to determine the exact location and the next development stages," he pointed out.

Furthermore, Tjahjanto assured legislators that the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is involved in every development phase of the new data centers.

The minister then acknowledged that it would be a challenge for the government to successfully transition from temporary national data centers to the planned permanent data centers, necessitating the utilization of relevant, updated technologies.

"Transitioning from temporary to permanent data centers will not be easy, considering the security risks during the process of data migration. Moreover, it is vital that we take every integration step carefully to leave no opportunities for hackers," he emphasized.

On that note, he stated that the government is coordinating with domestic and international partners to ensure that the PDNs are powered by the finest technologies capable of anticipating cyberattacks.
