She highlighted the significance of MIKTA—comprising Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia—in promoting the implementation of the Pact for the Future, recently ratified at the UN Summit for the Future on September 22.
"Many are questioning the relevance of UN documents because the gap between commitment and implementation is too wide. MIKTA can play a key role in bridging this gap," Marsudi remarked during the MIKTA Foreign Ministerial Meeting, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
At the meeting, she stressed that multilateralism must not only survive but also serve the global community.
To this end, Indonesia invited MIKTA members to strengthen cooperation in improving global governance and working toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting the considerable gap between the targets and their current level of implementation.
"For instance, 60 percent of the targets for SDG 6 are progressing very slowly," she said. "We must work to close this implementation gap."
Marsudi also urged MIKTA to continue focusing on addressing humanitarian issues and global conflicts, encouraging more active efforts to resolve these challenges.
She called on countries to unite in stopping humanitarian atrocities committed by Israel, not only in Palestine but also in Lebanon.
"We must not allow Lebanon to become the next Gaza," she stressed.
Marsudi expressed regret over the negative campaigns against UNRWA amidst the conflict and praised Australia, a fellow MIKTA member, for taking the initiative to develop a Joint Statement on the Protection of Humanitarian Workers in Conflict Areas.
She also specifically encouraged MIKTA members to collaborate in supporting women's rights in Afghanistan, including their access to education and employment.
