Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) will have two helicopters on standby during the MotoGP Mandalika in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), this weekend.

Lalu Wahyu Efendi, head of the Mataram SAR Office, stated on Thursday that the helicopters will be used for the medical evacuation of MotoGP riders who may require immediate treatment in the event of an accident.

"If further treatment is necessary, the rider will be airlifted by helicopter to the NTB Regional General Hospital," he added.

Efendi also mentioned that Dorna, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, has reviewed the helicopters' readiness and conducted a simulation of the evacuation process.

In addition to personnel stationed at the circuit, the Mataram SAR Office has prepared search and rescue personnel and equipment at the port and airport.

Earlier, Dr. Lalu Herman Mahaputra, director of the NTB Regional General Hospital, announced that his team has prepared 150 medical personnel, including specialists and nurses, and 10 ambulances for the MotoGP event.

"We have ambulances on standby from the nearest hospitals, such as Mandalika Hospital, Praya Hospital, and Tripat Hospital; all hospitals are on alert," he added.

On Wednesday, all logistics for the MotoGP Mandalika arrived at Lombok International Airport on five special cargo flights operated by Qatar Airways.

The event is scheduled to take place from September 27 to 29 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok.

The government is targeting an audience of 100,000 tourists for the event.
