Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that he will ask President-elect Prabowo Subianto to ensure that the physical construction of hospitals in various regions is completed.

He made the statement while reviewing facilities at Dr. Abdul Rivai Regional General Hospital in Berau district, East Kalimantan, on Thursday.

"Dr. Abdul Rivai Hospital in Berau district is very good because it has a master plan to develop into a hospital that has good standard," he said, according to a statement received from the Presidential Secretariat here on Thursday.

At the hospital, the Head of State inspected various facilities such as the service counter, dental clinic, surgical clinic, and internal medicine clinic, among others.

He praised the development plan of the hospital and called for the improvement of health services for the people of Berau, considering that the area lacks sufficient health infrastructure.

He asked the local government to participate in improving services at the hospital, for instance, by adding CT Scan, mammography, cath lab, and ICU facilities.

He said that the central government would help supply the health equipment but the local government must build the infrastructure.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the director of Dr. Abdul Rivai Hospital, Jusram, informed that the bed occupancy rate (BOR) at the hospital has reached 92 percent, which is far from ideal.

Some medical devices in the hospital also need to be rejuvenated, he said.

"Our CT scan is 11 years old and needs to be updated to the 128-slice version. Secondly, we need MRI," he added.

He also expressed his gratitude for President Widodo's visit and hoped that the visit would have a positive impact on health development in Berau.
