Jakarta (ANTARA) - Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar drew attention to the need to implement mitigation steps against climate change appropriately and quickly to reduce the impact.

"Today, we have seen various information on the rapid development of climate change, which needs (to be responded to with an) appropriate and quick outlook," Iskandar noted as quoted from a press release received here on Friday.

At the International Seminar and Launch of the Climate Resilient Village Action and Collaboration in Badung, Bali, on Thursday (September 26) evening, the minister explained that this approach aims to handle the unwanted consequences of climate change as best as possible.

Iskandar pointed out that the impact of climate change occurs faster than expected, so if requisite preventive measures are not taken promptly, then its impact will be even more challenging to handle.

The minister emphasized that climate change mitigation requires collaboration among all parties, including ministries and agencies, as its impact transcends sectors.

Iskandar affirmed that his side will focus on initiating climate change mitigation efforts at the village level.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance will distribute the budget to the villages for implementing climate action programs, while the Ministry of Environment and Forestry will manage the conservation of natural resources and their ecosystems.

"Handling everything at the micro level is impossible if we are doing it alone, so it must be done in a collaborative way. The importance of today's forum (shows) how the Village Ministry synergizes with all parties through various patterns," Iskandar remarked.
