Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) lauded the development of MotoGP racing event that has been held for the last three years at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara.

President Jokowi conveyed his appreciation after directly watching the racing event, or officially called the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2024.

"I see that in the last three years, the development has been very good, especially in management. The facilities are also better," Jokowi said in a written statement received here on Sunday.

In addition to the improved management of the event, President Jokowi also appreciated the presence of local crews. He said that the recruitment of locals as the event crews showed the support for local workers' empowerment.

"I am happy that the three thousand crews here are all from West Nusa Tenggara. That is what I am happy about," the President stated.

Moreover, President Jokowi also highlighted the importance of evaluation for better implementation in the future. He emphasized that all shortcomings should be corrected in order to improve the event quality.

According to him, the event organizer, Dorna Sports, gave a positive response to this year's holding of MotoGP Mandalika.

Dorna appreciated the local culture displayed at the event opening ceremony, he mentioned.

"Dorna commented that this time the event is different and very good. There was national anthem and dance performance," he said.

The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2024 in Mandalika has successfully attracted the world's attention and captivated motorcycle racing fans.

President Jokowi's support for this event also showed the importance of international sports for Indonesia, both for tourism and economy.
