Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential special staff for social affairs, Angkie Yudistia, accentuated the continuity of the government's commitment to improving accessibility for people with disabilities under the administration of Prabowo Subianto.

Yudistia told the press at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, that the commitment is outlined in Government Regulation Number 70 of 2019 on Fulfillment of the Rights of People With Disabilities.

She noted that one of the aspects regulated in the regulation is maximizing the accessibility of buildings owned by the government and private parties.

"We are calling for synergy among relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, to ensure buildings are built by paying attention to the needs of people with disabilities in various types," she remarked.

Furthermore, she highlighted the government's policy for civil servant recruitment for people with disabilities.

She explained that the government has set a minimum quota of one percent for disabled people in the private sector and two percent in state-run enterprises and government agencies.

She underscored that this step is concrete evidence of the real implementation of government policies.

"The hope is that more people with disabilities will be employed in ministries and regional governments so as to create an inclusive workplace. We hope that the private sector and state-run enterprises can also participate actively in this," she remarked.

The special staff further underlined the importance of providing opportunities to disabled people to enable them to work in accordance with their interests and contribute equally to the community.
