He made the request at a seminar organized by the National Resilience Institute in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Tjahjanto has tasked two institutions — the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics — with ensuring that the digital space remains democratic and does not disturb security and order.
Speaking about maintaining a conducive situation on social media, he said that such sites face two types of threats, namely misinformation and polarization.
He underscored that those threats must be given higher attention given the spread of hoaxes and provocations.
"We have gathered all journalists and media to anticipate and carry out strict control so that this misinformation does not trigger a rift in the unity and integrity of the nation," he said.
In addition to optimizing the KPU's cybersecurity system and maintaining the conducive state of social media, Tjahjanto underscored that the government is also trying to detect and manage action plans and mitigate all the dynamics in society.

The government is also optimizing cooling measures, unity, and integrity through approaches involving religious, community, and traditional leaders to ensure the security of the Regional Head Elections.
The government has also created a coordination desk comprising 19 ministries and agencies that will be involved in the elections.
"It is hoped that all the problems that can hinder the 2024 Regional Head Elections can be handled and resolved maximally," he said.
