According to the Secretariat of State, the regulation aims to accelerate job creation and the development of Tangerang in Banten. Parts of the district have been deemed suitable for special economic zone status based on specific criteria and requirements.
The SEZ will cover a total of 59.68 hectares, with 28.83 hectares located in the eastern area and 30.85 hectares in the western area.
Business activities within the SEZ will include research, digital economy, and technology development, along with education, healthcare, and the creative industry.
As outlined in the regulation, the National Council for SEZ will issue a decree to the entity responsible for developing and managing the area within seven days of the regulation’s enactment.
This business entity will finance the zone’s development and management, ensuring that it is ready for operation within 36 months of the regulation coming into effect.
The National Council will later evaluate the completion and operational readiness of the SEZ.
The regulation officially took effect on October 7.
