Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises is set to organize the 1st Modest Fashion Month (MOFAM) on October 13 in Jakarta to support Indonesia's vision of becoming a global modest fashion center.

Acting Deputy for Small and Medium Enterprises at the ministry, Temmy Satya Permana, stated that the MOFAM also aims to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the local fashion industry while promoting a fashionable yet modest dressing style that reflects diversity, inclusiveness, and self-expression.

"This event will bring together designers, influencers, and fashion enthusiasts in a forum dedicated to exchanging ideas, inspirations, and innovations within the context of an inclusive world of fashion," he noted in the ministry's statement cited here on Friday.

He explained that with its theme of “Modest X Streetwear: The Fusion of Modesty, Urban Style & Ready-to-Wear,” the MOFAM is expected to serve as a valuable opportunity for Indonesia to affirm its readiness to become a global modest fashion trendsetter.

"Indonesia's modest fashion has a uniqueness that can be showcased to the global markets. We are optimistic that by augmenting the quality of products, creating innovative designs, and solidifying competitiveness, Indonesia will excel in the international modest fashion markets," he remarked.

Citing the State of Global Islamic Economic Report 2023, Permana underscored that the total value of consumption of Muslims around the world hit US$2.29 trillion in 2022, with a prospect of reaching US$3.1 trillion in 2027.

In that regard, he affirmed that the modest fashion sector is projected to emerge among the most significant contributors to the foretold growth.

"Bearing that in mind, it is crucial that we expand the market reach of Indonesia's modest fashion internationally to strengthen Indonesia's position as a player to be reckoned with in the world's fashion markets," he emphasized.

The event will display the fashion products of over 10 local designers and around 50 micro, small, and medium enterprises from across Indonesia.
