Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani stated that the DPR has agreed to increase the number of its commissions to 13 for the 2024-2029 term.

Maharani said this decision was reached at the first Leadership Meeting and Consultation Meeting held after the DPR speaker and members' inauguration on October 1, 2024, with all eight factions within the DPR in agreement.

"There are two additional commissions in the DPR to be able to align or synergize with the plans of the upcoming government," she remarked at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Monday.

Maharani underscored the need for harmony and synergy between the legislative and executive as the upcoming government plans to increase the number of ministries.

Nevertheless, she stated that the number of commissions will currently remain at 11 until the government officially announces the number of ministries and their nomenclatures.

In addition to agreeing on the number of commissions, the speaker said that the meeting concurred on the composition of the commissions, starting from the number of members to the names of leaders.

"Thank God, with deliberation and consensus, we can conclude it well and peacefully," the DPR speaker remarked.

According to Maharani, the names of the commission leaders and their partners will be announced on Tuesday (October 15) during the plenary meeting.

Maharani noted that each political party faction leader in the DPR will announce the figure of the commission leader.

"Thus, it is the right of each faction to announce. It is not the (DPR) leadership who will announce it," she remarked.
