Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy chairperson of Gerindra Party and House of Representatives member, Sugiono, has expressed his readiness to assist President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is also the party's chair, in the next government.

"I am a soldier, whatever task is given to me, I will carry it out as well as possible with full responsibility," he said after meeting Prabowo at his residence in Kertanegara IV, Jakarta, on Monday.

Sugiono confirmed that he and Prabowo discussed his placement in the next government during the meeting.

When asked whether a ministerial berth was discussed, Sugiono said he did not wish to divulge any details.

"We will see what Mr. Prabowo will give me, thank you," he said.

Earlier, Sugiono informed that he was not involved in the discussion regarding the determination of the next foreign affairs minister, for which his name was rumored to have come up.

The rumor that he will take on the role of foreign minister, replacing the incumbent Retno Marsudi, has been circulating in the media.

"I was not involved in the discussion whether I would be included or not," he said in September 2024.

Sugiono emphasized that the determination of Cabinet seats is the prerogative of the President.

"No, it will be the President's right to determine who (will become his ministers)," he said.

Since afternoon on Monday, more than 20 figures, including professionals, politicians, bureaucrats, active police officers, and leaders of community organizations, had visited Prabowo's residence.

They were believed to be Prabowo's ministerial candidates and candidates for heads of government agencies.
