Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, has said he believes that the social welfare programs implemented by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will continue and even improve under the incoming government of President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

"Mr. Prabowo will continue what Mr. Jokowi has done and at the same time, improve and provide additional things in the future," he added during the handover of social rehabilitation assistance (ATENSI) here on Thursday.

He disbursed the assistance to 153 persons from vulnerable communities in Karanganyar village, Tuntang sub-district.

To accelerate the improvement of social welfare for all Indonesians, the ministry is continuing to visit vulnerable communities to find out the shortcomings of government-run social programs, he added.

All findings during the community visits, the minister continued, will be used as inputs for the programs.

"While accepting new and better ideas, we innovate, correct, and evaluate what the government is lacking in, so we are maintaining the good ones and carrying out evaluation, therefore the social welfare acceleration program can be realized faster," he said.

"We want to help, support, and empower people who really need facilities from the government," he added.

The total assistance provided by the ministry amounted to Rp105 billion or US$6.6 million, consisting of Family Hope Program (PKH) aid of Rp71.3 billion, staple goods worth Rp22.8 billion, food for elderly people worth Rp6.2 billion, and food for disabled people worth Rp2.5 billion.

It also included assistance of Rp1.8 billion for orphans and Rp155.5 million for vulnerable groups, besides Rp183.2 million in ATENSI aid and three tractors worth Rp60 million.
