Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed Teguh Setyabudi as the new acting governor of Jakarta, replacing the previous acting governor, Heru Budi Hartono.

This announcement was made by Ari Dwipayana, Coordinator of the Presidential Special Staff, on Thursday.

Hartono was appointed acting governor of Jakarta on October 17, 2022, following the end of Anies Baswedan's term one day earlier.

Although Hartono's term was originally set to conclude in 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended it until October 2024 after conducting an evaluation.

In September, Setyabudi, who was serving as the Director General of Population and Civil Registration at the ministry, received the highest number of votes to become the acting governor in a meeting of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD).

Over 8.2 million residents of Jakarta will vote for their next governor in the regional elections scheduled for November 27.

Three candidate pairs are running for the positions of governor and deputy governor: Ridwan Kamil-Suswono, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana, and Pramono Anung-Rano Karno.
