Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) member Himmatul Aliyah on Thursday welcomed the plan to form a Ministry of Culture in the new Cabinet of President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Speaking at a public discussion here, she explained that the formation of the new ministry that will solely focus on culture would have an extraordinary impact on the country's cultural advancement.

"We are grateful because there will be a new ministry called the Ministry of Culture in the next Cabinet. This will have a significant impact on cultural progress," she said.

She informed that her side is seeking more fresh inputs on cultural ecosystem development in Indonesia.

That way, it is hoped that cultures that are on the brink of extinction can be saved and revived, she said.

According to Aliyah, the younger generation must be provided with knowledge and insights on culture to instill a love for the culture of the nation in them.

She said she believes that communities must be encouraged to pay more attention to the local culture to ensure the sustainability of the culture itself.

"We will continue to synergize with the actors or stakeholders of the culture itself. Of course, we are looking forward to various suggestions and inputs for future improvements," she added.

Earlier on Tuesday, legislator Dede Yusuf said that the formation of a Ministry of Culture in the Prabowo-Gibran administration would advance the cultural potential of Indonesia.

"This is very good for culture figures, for them to be at the forefront in promoting culture. The promotion of culture is not only about preserving something old but how to convert them to keep up with the times," he added.
