Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has said that President Prabowo Subianto's call to unite in his inaugural speech as president must be supported by all Indonesian people.

"We as the Indonesian nation must laud and support the spirit that was conveyed (by Prabowo) earlier. Indonesia must work together," Maharani added.

She made the remarks after the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Nusantara Building in the parliament complex, Jakarta, here on Sunday.

She invited the entire community to unite in efforts to build Indonesia.

She added that national unity must be revived after the 2024 General Election and Prabowo-Gibran inauguration.

"Let's unite to build Indonesia. Let's unite in respect and harmony. What happened in the elections is in the past. It is better for us to move in unity to build (a) better Indonesia," she said.

President Prabowo, in his speech earlier, invited all Indonesian people to face the country's challenges together.

He asked all segments of society, including education leaders, religious leaders, businesspeople, political leaders, youth, and students, to jointly confront the challenges.

"I invite my fellow people of one nation to become a courageous nation; a nation that is not afraid of challenges; a nation that is not afraid of obstacles; a nation that is not afraid of threats," Prabowo said in his inaugural speech.

The new president and vice president took the oath of office for the 2024–2029 term at a People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) plenary session at the Nusantara Building on Sunday.

A total of 709 MPR members joined the inauguration, which was also attended by national figures, political party leaders, and representatives from friendly countries.
