Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director General of Public Information and Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Prabunindya Revta Revolusi emphasized that press freedom will be upheld during President Prabowo's administration.

"We will definitely increase the press freedom index. That is the commitment of the Red and White Cabinet led by President Prabowo," the man, familiarly called Prabu, stated here on Monday (10/21).

Prabu emphasized that press freedom will not only remain intact but will actually improve. Moreover, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid is a figure involved in journalism for a long time.

He believes the spirit to take the press in a better direction will be carried forward.

Prabu also highlighted that President Prabowo has repeatedly stated his commitment to continuing various programs from the administration of President Joko Widodo.

This includes the policy of Presidential Regulation Number 32 of 2024 concerning the Responsibility of Digital Platforms to Support Quality Journalism or Publisher Rights, which will continue to be pushed to provide stronger protection for national media.

In addition, the ministry is discussing other regulations that can strengthen the position of national media amid digital disruption. This discussion is expected to produce regulations to strengthen media in Indonesia.

"We are looking to provide further reinforcement through other regulations. This was still being discussed at the ministry, and I am sure we will receive the same direction from the minister," Prabu remarked.

"Tomorrow, we will hold a leadership meeting. We will definitely convey the media strengthening initiative that will be carried out by the Ministry of Communication and Digital," he remarked.

Prabu affirmed that apart from regulations, the ministry will work towards supporting the digital transformation of national media.

He believes that the media is one of the pillars of democracy that must remain alive and strong. Hence, the government must play a role in ensuring the existence of the media amid the challenges of disruption.

"The ministry will help guide the digital transformation of national media so that this can provide better and more tangible results for national media. Hence, we will try to find a new way out for adaptation of national media in the era of disruption," he concluded.
