Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have continued their cooperation to prepare reliable intelligence to fight drug crimes by organizing a second round of intelligence workshops.

As part of the latest round, the "Digging Deeper: Narcotics Analyst Workshop," has been organized at the BNN Human Resource Development Center in West Java from October 21–25, 2024.

"This workshop is an effort to increase the capacity and capabilities of intelligence officers from the central to regional levels," deputy for eradication at the agency, I Wayan Sugiri, said at the opening of the workshop on Monday.

By increasing the capacity and capabilities of intelligence officers, he explained, the BNN could move in accordance with the values, direction, and strategies for handling narcotics issues.

He also highlighted the increasingly widespread network of illicit drug trafficking across the world, which requires intelligence officers with special abilities and expertise to handle.

Therefore, he said, strengthening BNN intelligence through collaboration with DEA is important.

Meanwhile, DEA Jakarta attaché Bryan Barger said that intelligence analysis has played an important role in the successful uncovering of cases involving smuggling and illicit drug trafficking.

Therefore, he appealed to the participants to make good use of the activities and gain as much knowledge as possible from the instructors during the workshop.

"In this workshop, DEA presents expert instructors who have a lot of experience in handling narcotics in the world, so I suggest that participants can gain knowledge by asking lots of questions," Barger added.

The BNN and DEA expect the collaboration through the workshop to strengthen and optimize the performance of BNN's intelligence as the vanguard in the fight against drug crimes in Indonesia.

Like the previous workshop held from October 14–18, the second workshop round was joined by 20 participants representing the central and provincial BNN.

For five days, the participants will be given various materials related to intelligence and strategic analysis of narcotics handling through the implementation of advanced and current investigations.
